IP403 International Proficiency Qualification Asbestos Fibre Counting (PCM)

Join Now

IP403 has been specially designed to suit the role of the asbestos analyst in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, but is relevant for all countries outside of the UK. It complements our recently launched IP404 qualification, which is designed for the asbestos assessor role and further explores air sampling strategies and clearance testing.

Who should attend?

IP403 is aimed at candidates who undertake asbestos fibre counting as part of their work, and who reside in a country that does not have a recognised asbestos analysis qualification.

Asbestos analysts have a key role to play in helping to ensure that control measures for asbestos removal and remediation are effective, and that buildings are safe for re-occupation after asbestos removal works have been carried out. This qualification covers the full fibre counting process, from preparing filters through to reporting and evaluating findings.

Legislation

IP403 is international therefore there is less emphasis on legislation. The aim is to give candidates a flavour of legislation and regulation in different countries. There are still plenty of references to UK legislation and practices in the Student Manual, but mainly because the UK is a leader in asbestos management across the world. It’s important to know that IP403 is not an alternative to P403 in the UK, for example it’s not recognised by HSE or UKAS.
