One of the first steps to managing asbestos is to identify its location and condition. This is normally achieved by an asbestos survey. The HSE guidance note HSG 264 strongly recommends the use of UKAS accredited surveyors because they have the relevant training, experience, quality control systems and insurance. Santia is UKAS accredited for asbestos inspection and testing. Our in-house laboratories give us full control over the quality of analysis and the flexibility to respond to emergency situations when a customer needs a prompt result.
Santia offers a complete range of asbestos surveying and sampling services, including:
- Management Surveys
- Refurbishment Surveys
- Demolition Surveys
- Re-inspections and condition monitoring

Asbestos Management Surveys
HSG 264 defines a Management Survey as a “standard survey to locate the presence and extent of any suspect ACMs in the building which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, including foreseeable maintenance and installation, and to assess their condition”.
At the outset of any new surveying contract, your designated Consultant will undertake a detailed planning process to ensure that the scope of works is clearly defined. A desk top study and site walkthrough ensures that the survey is planned correctly and safely, and that all of the areas of the building which could be accessed during normal occupation and maintenance are inspected.
Refurbishment Surveys and Demolition Surveys
A Refurbishment Survey is needed prior to any refurbishment and is defined in HSG 264 as necessary “to locate and describe all ACMs in the area where the refurbishment work will take place. The survey will be fully intrusive and involve destructive inspection to gain access to all areas, including those that may be difficult to reach”.Read More >
