Craig set himself and his children an exceptionally challenging target of completing a 5k swim in under 90 minutes as part of the 2018 Swimathon. ‘Team Jones’ give it their all and managed to complete the distance in just 98 minutes, beating their personal targets. Craig’s son (Corey, aged 8) swam 50 lengths in under 30 minutes, his daughter (Ella, aged 10) swam 50 lengths in under 25 minutes whilst Craig swam the longer distance of 100 lengths in under 45 minutes. Despite falling short of the 90 minutes target, ‘Team Jones’ beat the time set the previous year of an all adult 4 man team by 2 minutes which puts the effort made into context.
Craig said: “I’m proud of the efforts made by my two children for completing the challenge which would have been a meaningless task if it were not for the generous donations received to support my chosen charity Mesothelioma UK. My children have managed to fundraise £240 between them for the Swimathon charities Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK so between us, over £1,300 has been raised for these very worthy causes.
Jill Lemon, Fundraising & Marketing Manager of Mesothelioma UK “On behalf of Mesothelioma UK I would like to congratulate and thank Craig for his support not only raising awareness about asbestos and mesothelioma but also for the funds he has raised which is an excellent contribution to our newly launched Mesothelioma Research Fund.”
