Approximately 2,500 people die from Mesothelioma each year in the UK alone. The charity Mesothelioma UK is a national resource centre dedicated to providing free specialist information, support and improved care and treatment for those affected by the disease.
The centre co-ordinates communication and information about everything relevant to mesothelioma throughout the UK and supports any initiative that seeks to improve the life and experiences of mesothelioma patients and their carers. Mesothelioma UK operates a national free phone helpline (0800 169 2409) that provides access to impartial, accurate and relevant advice specific to mesothelioma for patients, carers and health care professionals.
Callers to the helpline can access specialist nurse clinical advice, booklets, factsheets and can also be put in touch with local sources of information and support. Patients and carers can be signposted to their local nurse specialist and local or nearest support group. For health care professionals, Mesothelioma UK organises numerous training and educational events, regular news bulletins, has established a National Mesothelioma Nurse Action Team and generally supports health care teams in the management of Mesothelioma patients.
Mesothelioma UK collaborates with all other interested parties to raise awareness about mesothelioma and the dangers of asbestos and coordinate events surrounding Action Mesothelioma Day in July each year. Initially funded by Macmillan Cancer Support, Mesothelioma UK now relies totally on voluntary donations to its own independent charity; Mesothelioma UK Charitable Trust, so if you would like to donate for this worthy cause, please click here now: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/craig-jones70
