Our business is built on developing and maintaining valued relationships with customers. We aim to be an organisation that is transparent in our corporate practice for our people, customers and partners.
We’ve grown from zero to more than a hundred members of staff since 1992 – fantastic for our service offering, but with that expansion comes responsibility. We believe that we have a responsibility to act with integrity, and to be a company that customers trust and employees enjoy working for.
Our people are our greatest asset, they are at the heart of everything we do and every decision we make within the business. Since the creation of Santia, our main mission has been to promote the development of our people. We do this by supporting the achievement of technical excellence and by helping and backing each other as a team, to ensure we succeed together.
At Santia, we look after our people and help them to fulfil their ambitions. One of our many success stories is Senior Asbestos Consultant, Ben Gwinnutt. Ben started working as an Asbestos Scheduling Administrator at Santia in 2012, before progressing to a Trainee Surveyor, Surveyor, Lead Surveyor and Analyst, Asbestos Consultant, and now Senior Asbestos Consultant. During this time, Ben has completed four BOHS Proficiency Modules, three NEBOSH certificates and is currently studying for his MSc in Health, Safety and Environmental Management; the perfect complement to his role and further development.
The health effects that asbestos can cause are always in mind when working in this industry, which is why Asbestos Awareness and Support Cymru (A.A.S.C.) and Macmillan Cancer Support are two charities that we are committed to support.
The focus or mission of A.A.S.C. is to strive to make the lives of those living with asbestos related illnesses and their families better. Over the years A.A.S.C. has established regular group meetings, days out, raised awareness and provided signposting for information and telephone support for victims of asbestos related diseases. We are passionately supporting A.A.S.C. to help them achieve these goals. In 2017 we donated to the ‘Future Generations’ project and delivered presentations during Global Asbestos Awareness Week and Mesothelioma Awareness Day to raise awareness of asbestos use and its management.
Every year we bake and brew to fundraise for Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. We also support other charities which are close to the hearts of our people; in 2017 we also held an extra cake sale to fundraise for the Cardiff and Vale Breast Centre.
Each September-October we pledge free asbestos awareness training sessions as part of UKATA’s Train Safe, Work Safe, Keep Safe Campaign. The campaign is designed to keep small businesses and sole traders safe from the UK’s biggest workplace killer.
We believe that we perform better by concentrating on people; focusing on nurturing and developing our employees and supporting the charities which are close to us. We think our people, given the right opportunities, balance and training, can continue to evolve and to drive our business forward, making our people proud to work at Santia and our customers proud to work with us.
Our corporate aspirations are underpinned by our policies which cover Bribery, Anti-Harassment and Bullying, Community Investment, Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.
